From concrete to market stall – craftsmanship on wheels

The story

For Oliver, the CARLA is more than just a tool – it is an expression of his attitude to life: relaxed, close to nature, and a little unusual – just like Oliver himself. The trained plant and equipment engineer has been running a small craft business in the field of concrete demolition for over twelve years and carries out test drilling for engineers and geologists. In his spare time, he has converted an old farmhouse and now lives there surrounded by sheep and chickens. He has also set up a small pottery workshop there – craftsmanship in the truest sense of the word.

Oliver has been riding cargo bikes for twelve years – back then with simple trailers that quickly reached their limits. He was often ridiculed for it. But then he came across CARLA. The idea of a large trailer that offered space for his projects, his craft, and his ideas stuck with him. In early 2025, he fulfilled his dream – and since then, he regularly experiences magical moments on his way to work: cycling along the Aare, enjoying nature, watching birds – he's even spotted a badger and a weasel. Oliver arrives at his customers' premises feeling relaxed. And they are amazed:

“Here comes someone drilling huge holes in the concrete – and on a bike? Awesome.”

  • No worries about the load weight – there are no limits to your ideas
  • The eCARLA masters every bike path and every incline – even in Switzerland – relaxed and without breaking a sweat
  • Protected from wind and weather by the Paul tarpaulin – always ready for the next job

The Setup

Oliver rides an eCARLA in combination with a Riese & Müller Multitinker. In addition to tools and materials, there is even enough space for a second person if necessary. The compact and flexible combination of bicycle and trailer not only allows for a wide range of uses, but can also be easily lent to colleagues or ridden by them.

His eCARLA is equipped with a Paul-Plane body. Oliver has also designed his own pallet with brackets, lashing points, and a sturdy rear wall for his tools. This can be loaded onto the CARLA in just a few simple steps using a pallet trolley. This gives Oliver maximum flexibility in using his eCARLA for his craft: whether transporting straw bales for the sheep, taking tools to the construction site, or helping with a move, the loading area can be cleared in no time.

Oliver has also recently started using his eCARLA as a mobile sales stand to showcase his handcrafted pottery at markets. This pottery stand is also built like a pallet and can be loaded in a matter of minutes.

“In an emergency, I can be ready to drive to a market in five minutes.”

And he's not running out of ideas anytime soon: a small two-person sauna on the CARLA?

His motto: “I transport everything with the CARLA. Always.”

“There's someone coming, drilling huge holes in the concrete – and on a bike? Awesome.”
