The story

KurierZentrale GmbH is Basel's first bicycle courier service and has been bringing movement to urban logistics since 1989. With a clear focus on speed and flexibility within the city, the company has established itself as a reliable express courier service. Always on the lookout for innovations, the team came across CARLA at the Cargobike Festival in Nijmegen, Netherlands, in 2016 – and it proved to be the perfect addition to their existing fleet. Since then, it has been an integral part of their daily logistics routes, especially for the first and last mile within the city.

A special highlight alongside the daily courier trips was the use of CARLA at a wedding: instead of the expected catering vehicle, a bicycle courier with a trailer appeared, from which the aperitif was served directly – much to the delight and surprise of the guests.

The Setup

KurierZentrale relies on a clever combination of delivery vans for long distances and bicycles for inner-city logistics. CARLA is used daily and transports around 100 shipments per day – efficiently, quickly, and emission-free. An E-Bullit is used as the towing vehicle, which emerged as the favorite after extensive testing with other models.
